BET Sets Programming Schedule for Democratic Convention

Network Will Feature News Special, Live Coverage Each Night

BET will offer live coverage each night from the Democratic National Convention starting Monday, Aug. 25 at 10 p.m. ET and will also feature four BET News specials that delve into key issues surrounding the 2008 presidential election.

The coverage will kick off with Michelle Obama’s speech live at 10 p.m. ET Monday night. Following the speech, the network will provide a half-hour of analysis with BET News correspondents, political analysts and special guests live from the Pepsi Center in Denver.

On Tuesday, Aug. 26, it will air “What’s At Stake: The Top 10 Issues Affecting Black America.” The news special will reveal “the top 10 issues that affect the survival of black people, and delve into how the policies supported by both presidential candidates can, for better or worse, affect those issues and bring change to the lives of Black Americans.”

Rev. Al Sharpton, Nas, Chuck D, David Banner, Crystal McCrary Anthony, John McWhorter, Boyce Watkins, Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, Keli Goff, Clay Cane, Rob Stapleton, Donnell Rawlings, Ardie Fuqua, Godfrey, Jina Johnson, Samson, Sharon Carpenter, Staceyann Chin and Keith Boykin are among those expected to weigh in with their perspectives.

Also on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. ET, the network will telecast live Sen. Hillary Clinton’s speech and again follow it up with a half-hour of analysis.

On Wednesday, Aug. 27, BET will air the live speech from Sen. Barack Obama’s Vice Presidential candidate and another half hour of analysis.

Thursday’s programming schedule will include “The Dream: 45 Years Later,” an inside look at Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic speech of August 28, 1963 and "his" dream exactly 45 years later as it relates to the 2008's presidential race and this defining moment in history as Barack Obama accepts the Democratic Nomination for President of the United States of America.

It will be followed at 9 p.m. ET with “Obama’s Journey to the White House,” a special that counts down the Top 10 moments of Obama's rise to the Democratic nomination for President.

At 10 p.m. ET, BET will air Obama’s nomination speech live from Invesco Field in its entirety.
