Sci Fi’s Vitale Promoted To EVP

Responsible For Original Genre Movie Development

By Multi Channel News Staff -- Multichannel News, 10/14/2008 12:30:00 PM

Sci Fi Channel said Thomas Vitale has been promoted to executive vice president of programming and original movies from senior vice president, continuing to report to channel president Dave Howe.

Vitale started at Sci Fi in early 1993, as director of acquisitions, shortly after the network’s September 1992 launch and has risen ever since. “Tom has played a leadership role in the evolution and success of SCI FI,” Howe said in a release. “His deep competitive knowledge, keen negotiating skills, scheduling savvy, and strong creative and strategic execution have been key factors in firmly establishing Sci Fi’s place in the very top tier of cable entertainment.”

Vitale is responsible for original genre movie development for Sci Fi and Chiller, charged with delivering up to 36 original movies per year. He’s also responsible for Sci Fi’s original two-hour investigative documentaries, including this past year’s record-setting Mystery of the Crystal Skulls special, which aired during the week leading up to the release of the latest Indiana Jones movie.

He oversees Sci Fi’s programming, including its aggressive buying and scheduling strategy, and is also responsible for programming and acquisitions for the emerging Chiller network.
