NESN Nets Atlantic Coast Conference Extension

Regional TV Rights Pact Covers Hoops, Lacrosse, Baseball

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 10/20/2008 6:26:00 AM

NESN has inked a multiyear extension with the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The agreement, terms of which were not disclosed, covers men’s and women’s basketball, and conference championship games for men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball, plus regular-season and tournament baseball games.

NESN’s 2008-09 ACC men’s basketball schedule tips off with coverage of defending conference champion North Carolina’s season opener against Penn on Nov. 15 at 4 p.m.  The regional sports network will also cover nine ACC women’s basketball games, starting with Duke vs. Maryland on Feb 23, and highlighted by complete coverage of the distaff tournament, concluding with the championship game on March 8.

NESN’s season-long coverage of ACC men’s basketball action includes six games involving Boston College, the conference’s northernmost member, including matchups with New England rival Providence College on Dec. 20 and national powers North Carolina (Jan. 4) and Duke (Feb. 15).

In 2010, the ACC baseball tournament will be played at Fenway Park, with NESN holding exclusive regional rights to all televised games.

Our partnership with the ACC has served as one of the tent poles of our NESN University programming,” said NESN executive vice president of programming and executive producer Joel Feld in a statement. “The ACC package allows our fans to see Boston College compete against some of the best schools in the nation.”
