Gol TV has acquired the exclusive U.S. TV rights to the 2009 U-20, and U-17 CONMEBOL South American Youth Championships.
Kicking off in January, Gol TV will telecast the 24th Annual “Juventud de América” South American U-20 Youth Championship from Peru.
Two months later, the soccer-centric network will follow the 13th Annual South American U-17 Youth Championships to Chile.
Combined, Gol TV will present a total of 52 matches from the two competitions, with.the top two national teams from each tournament qualifying to represent South America in the 2009 FIFA U-20 and U-17 World Cups, respectively.
“This is quality soccer, which usually ends up in the stardom of the soccer figures of the near future,” Gol TV executive vice president of programming and business development Constantino Voulgaris told Multichannel News.
The network holds the U.S. rights for both English- and Spanish-language coverage of both tourneys. Gol TV, whose other properties include Span’s La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga and 2010 FIF World Cup qualifying matches for Italy, Spain and Germany, provides feeds in both tongues, giving distributors the option to position the network on sports or Hispanic packages.
“In addition to match coverage, we’ll have behind-the-scenes action and in-depth interviews with some of the players,” said Voulgaris.
