Just days after announcing that it would shed as many as 300 employees in its Eastern Division, Comcast said that it will undergo layoffs at its Comcast Spotlight unit.
Comcast Spotlight spokesman Chris Ellis said that the company has spoken to some employees regarding a restructuring. But he declined to reveal how many people will lose their jobs, adding that some of the positions will remain vacant and that the company is helping others find new positions within the Comcast fold.
Comcast Spotlight is the advertising sales arm of the cable giant. It has about 3,500 employees across the country.
Earlier this week, Comcast’s Eastern Division said it would layoff about 1.5% of its 20,000-person workforce, as part of an overall restructuring.
“It was a difficult decision to make, but the current economic downturn and its residual impact on advertising revenue requires that we re-evaluate operations and adjust resources,” Ellis said. “It’s our belief that the changes will enable us to be positioned correctly in what is a challenging economic environment,” He said that the company met with affected employees this week.
