Fuse Gets Rock Hall of Fame Telecasts In Three-Year Deal

Coverage Kicks Off With Live Broadcast in April

By Kent Gibbons -- Multichannel News, 11/3/2008 1:00:00 AM

New York—The Fuse music-video network said it signed a three-year deal to air the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, starting with a live broadcast of the four-hour ceremony from Cleveland’s Public Hall on April 4, 2009. Live telecasts in 2010 and 2011 will originate from the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel here.

Nominees for induction at the 2009 ceremony include Metallica, Run DMC, Jeff Beck, the Stooges, Chic, Wanda Jackson, Little Anthony and the Imperials, War and Bobby Womack. VH1 Classic aired the past two March ceremonies, from the Waldorf; Fuse president Eric Sherman formerly ran VH1 Classic.

“Fuse’s partnership with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame strengthens our reputation as the home of music on television,” Sherman said in a release. “The Rock Hall is the preeminent institution for celebrating rock music, with the induction ceremony being famous for bringing together some of the most legendary names in music. Fuse is proud to bring all of the artists, performances and impromptu moments live to our viewers.”

Fuse has been expanding its music programming, including coverage of the Voodoo Experience, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and Lollapalooza. Fuse also recently premiered three new fall programs with music at its core: Redemption Song, where 11 down-on-their-luck women compete against each other for a record deal; Fuse Excellent Adventure, where comedian Nate Jackson travels to meet music fans; and Fuse Rock Bottom, which follows rising musical groups as they stage an intervention and give one troubled band member an ultimatum to clean up his or her act or get replaced.

“We are thrilled for Fuse to join us as our television and online partner, and look forward to working together to expand our audience and create even more magical moments that continue to recognize the legends of rock and roll and their impact on our lives and culture,” Joel Peresman, CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said in the release.

Located in a magnificent IM Pei designed building in Cleveland, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is dedicated to showcasing the story, artists and artifacts that make up history and ongoing significance and importance of Rock and Roll.

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first album. Nine nominees are selected by the foundation's nomination committee and then a larger group of former inductees, artists and music business professionals vote and select the five inductees who will be announced in early January.
