Verizon Buys More BigBand Gear For FiOS TV

Telco Deploys 1,500 Broadband Multimedia Routers

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 11/12/2008 12:38:00 AM

Verizon has signed a new multiyear agreement with BigBand Networks, which provides video equipment for the telco's FiOS TV service.

The value of the contract was not disclosed. Verizon recently deployed its 1,500th BigBand Broadband Multimedia-Service Router, which channels video signals onto the FiOS fiber-optic network.

Verizon has used BigBand equipment since it first commercially launched FiOS TV in September 2005. FiOS TV service is now available to 8.2 million households in 14 states.

In the first six months of 2008, Verizon was one of BigBand's top three customers, along with Time Warner Cable and Cox Communications. Those three each represented more than 10% of BigBand's $82.9 million net revenue in the first half of the year, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings.
