Netflix Hires Macrovision Exec to Cut Internet TV Deals

Greg Peters Named VP of Partner Product Development

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 11/13/2008 6:11:00 AM

Netflix named Greg Peters, previously in charge of consumer electronics products for Macrovision Solutions, as vice president of partner product development to sign deals with device manufacturers enabling access to the company’s service that streams movies and TV episodes directly to TVs.

Netflix is extending its DVD-by-mail business with the Internet video service, which currently offers about 12,000 titles for viewing online or on TVs via various consumer-electronics products. The company has announced partnerships with TiVo, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Microsoft and Roku to offer Netflix-ready devices.

Peters, who will report to chief product officer Neil Hunt, is expected to land more deals with CE makers.

"Greg's expertise in all aspects of the product development lifecycle—from vision to design to implementation—will be a significant asset to Netflix and our partners as we push toward our goal of eventually enabling all U.S. households to stream Netflix to their TVs," Hunt said in announcing the appointment.

Prior to Macrovision, Peters was vice president of engineering for Mediabolic, a provider of digital home entertainment software acquired by Macrovision last year. He also has worked for Red Hat, a provider of Linux and open-source software, and was director of Web development for online wine store Wine.com.
