Washington — The Obama-Biden transition team last week said former National Cable & Telecommunications Association president Tom Wheeler will participate in a working group “responsible for the science, technology, space and arts agencies” in preparation for the new administration in January.
Others named include former Federal Communications Commission chairman Reed Hundt, who will help oversee international trade and economics agencies. Hundt is reportedly interested in being named U.S. Trade Representative.
Don Gips, former chief of the FCC’s International Bureau under Hundt, was named co-chair of the transition’s Agency Review Working Group. He had already been named to the Advisory Board of the Obama-Biden Transition Project and is reportedly a candidate for FCC chairman or for the administration’s chief technology officer.
Obama’s transition office said agency review teams would go through key departments, agencies and commissions to provide the incoming administration “with information needed to make strategic policy, budgetary, and personnel decisions prior to the inauguration.” The teams were to start working last week.
