Bright House Clicks On Online Video Store

Download Site Provided Via Time Warner Cable Offers 3,000 Movies and TV Shows

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 11/17/2008 5:05:00 AM

Bright House Networks will steer customers to Time Warner Cable’s Road Runner Video Store, which provides 3,000 movies and TV shows for rent and purchase over the Internet and playable on Windows PCs.

The Road Runner Video Store was launched by Time Warner Cable last month. Comcast offers the same selection through its Fancast Store site.

The MSOs’ video-download services were developed In Demand Networks (jointly owned by Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Cox Communications) and Comcast’s thePlatform, which provides the back-end technologies for hosting and delivering content.

Road Runner Video Store pricing for a download-to-own new release movie is $17.99, with library titles ranging from $9.99 to $13.99 for download to own. Movie rentals are $3.99. TV series are $1.99 per episode, with full-season ordering available.

According to Bright House, features under development include the addition of HD content and the ability to order DVDs by mail. The video files are available in Microsoft’s Windows Media format, protected with the software company’s digital rights management system.
