Cox To Provide Broadband, Video Services to San Diego Naval Base

Luxury Housing Development Will Get Bundled Services

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 11/24/2008 10:20:00 AM

Cox Communications will be providing its bundle of services to Pacific Beacon, a first-of-its-kind luxury housing development on the U.S. Naval Base in San Diego, officials said Monday.

“In a unique agreement between the 32nd Street Naval Base and Clark Naval Communities LLC, the condo-style residences were built on base property for convenience, but have the residential amenities and the flexibility of luxury off-base housing,” Bryan Lamb, Clark Naval Communities’ senior development executive, said in a prepared statement. “These modern amenities include the best telecom services available in the region, provided by Cox Communications.”

To more effectively serve the large development, Cox Communications will work in conjunction with S2N Technology Group, a Clark Cos. subsidiary focused on the integration and management of technology in Clark’s diversified construction projects.

Cox will provide comprehensive telecommunications services to Pacific Beacon residents including:

-- Cox Digital Cable—Access to 358 HDTV, digital and standard-definition channels, thousands of hours of On Demand content and more than 140 San Diego Padres games in high definition.

-- Cox High Speed Internet—Speeds as high as 15 Mbps downstream, and Powerboostcapabilities on premium and preferred tiers for additional speed when uploading and downloading large files.

-- Cox Digital Telephone—Enhanced 911 capabilities intelligently route landline and wireless emergency calls directly to base personnel to ensure immediate response.

-- Wireless Hotspots—Secure wireless Internet access in 14 common areas throughout the development, including the lobby, pool, workout facility and gardens.

-- Naval base and community channel inserts and a community Web portal providing relevant community and base information is available to sailors via the television.

As part of the contract, Cox recently began providing video, Internet and voice services at Palmer Hall, an existing on-base housing facility with 512 units.

“U.S. military properties have some of the most advanced internal telecommunications requirements in the world, but it is also important for them to provide services that allow men and women who are serving to communicate effectively and enjoy enhanced entertainment options in their homes,” Mary Ball, vice president of sales for Cox Communications in San Diego, said in a prepared statement. “Cox Communications is proud to contribute to the efforts at the 32nd Street Naval base to provide an enhanced lifestyle for our service men and women stationed in San Diego.”

Pacific Beacon will include three high-rise residence buildings and retail businesses such as restaurants and banks. When all three towers are complete, the development will house more than 1,800 single service members. The luxury apartments feature dual master suites and common living and kitchen areas, with views of the ocean or mountains and fully-furnished options.

The first Pacific Beacon residence building is scheduled to open Dec. 11, with all buildings expected to be complete by March 1.

Cox primarily serves federal, state and local government entities through its Cox Business organization.
