Beta Version of Mobile Site Lets Subscribers Schedule Recordings

TiVo will let subscribers set DVR recordings from any Internet-enabled cell phone in the company’s latest attempt to distinguish its service from cable and satellite DVRs.
The new mobile site, at m.tivo.com, lets subscribers with broadband-connected Series2 or Series3 TiVos schedule recordings, while it’s also available to anyone to browse and search television shows.
M.tivo.com is in beta beginning Tuesday and will be available on a wide scale within a few weeks, TiVo said. The company built the site in conjunction with mobile applications development firm Mobui.
The site lets visitors search for TV shows by actor, title, director or keyword; provides a list of the most popular programs; and includes a recommendation feature that suggests other shows a user may be interested in.
“TiVo started out making television a more convenient, personal experience, and this is the next step to give television lovers total control over their media,” TiVo vice president of product marketing Jim Denney said, in a statement.
TiVo is scheduled to announce third-quarter results Tuesday after the market closes.

Let’s try that again…
So much, so good. Most cable carriers are inferior to Tivo in every way, especially the remote. The cable interface is pretty much as bad with the new cable HD DVRs as it was with the old cable HD DVRs. So why drop $1000.00 a year (every year) for cable service from Comcast? Tivo immediately ships you a brand new unit including an extra remote and extra cables should your Tivo stop working within the manufacturer warranty (and Tivos virtually never stop working). Oh, and Tivo has on-demand functions too...
Oh, and it's $500 for an HD Tivo with lifetime membership. Drop the cable service entirely, get some exercise, and watch the best quality HD recordings anywhere (via OTA PBS and the networks) with no monthly TV fees of any kind. Please, open your eyes and see Comcast as the crooks that they are. Get a Tivo HD today!

Too little too late, most cable carriers are superior to tivo in every way except, the remote. Even the interface is decent with newer cable HD DVR's. So why drop $600.00 for the newest tivo, still have to pay for the cable card, a monthly fee, and insurance...
If my hd dvr from comcast breaks they bring me a new one. If my remote breaks I get a new one. Oh, and I can use the on demand functions....
