Two More N.Y. Communities Approve FiOS Franchises

Lackawanna, Atlantic Beach Sign Off on Fiber-Optic Video Service

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 12/1/2008 8:59:00 AM

Lackawanna and Atlantic Beach Monday became the two latest New York communities to give the thumbs-up to video franchises for Verizon's FiOS fiber-optic TV service.

Lackawanna, in Erie County, and Atlantic Beach, in Nassau County, are now two of 143 Empire State municipalities that have authorized the telco to deliver FiOS to their residents.

"This is great news for residents of these two communities, who now will have a new choice for their video entertainment," said Andres Irlando, Verizon senior vice president for the New York region, in a prepared statement.

The agreements between Verizon and the two communities are subject to review by the New York State Public Service Commission.
