MobiTV Notches 5 Million Subscribers

Mobile TV Service Touts Increased Viewing In Election Season

MobiTV has surpassed the 5 million paying customers for its mobile TV and radio service, which is available via wireless carriers including AT&T, Sprint Nextel and Alltel.

The company also touted increased mobile-video viewing related to the 2008 presidential election, with a 373% increase in average viewing time on Nov. 4 across channels including ABC News Now, CNBC, CSPAN, Fox News and MSNBC.

Other content carried by MobiTV include shows from Animal Planet, USA Network, Bloomberg Television, Access Hollywood, The Weather Channel and History.

Investors in privately held MobiTV, founded in 1999, include Oak Investment Partners, Redpoint Ventures, Sorrento Ventures, Menlo Ventures, Hearst and Gefinor Ventures.
