Gray TV Reports Retrans Deals Pending with 20 Large MSOs

Expecting About More Than $8.4 Million in Revenue Next Year

By Linda Moss -- Multichannel News, 12/15/2008 5:10:00 AM

Gray Television has reached agreements in principal for retransmission-consent agreements with 20 large cable operators involving about 2.4 million cable subscribers, the broadcaster said Monday.

In addition, Gray TV said it had reached numerous agreements in principal with smaller cable operators, deals that are subject to the completion and execution of definitive agreements.

The agreements in principal and certain definitive agreements completed earlier in the year represent about 75% of Gray TV’s total in-market cable subscribers with large cable operators, according to the broadcaster.

The completed cable and satellite agreements, and the agreements in principal with large cable operators, are currently expected to provide about $8.4 million of incremental cash retransmission consent revenue during 2009, Gray TV said. Completed agreements with numerous small cable operators will further increase the expected incremental cash retransmission consent revenue for 2009, according to the broadcaster.

Gray TV said that it currently anticipates that total retransmission-consent revenue will be about $3 million this year.

The company is currently in active negotiations with an additional 10 large cable operators representing about 1 million in-market subscribers as well as numerous small cable operators.

Earlier this year, Gray TV reached definitive agreements with Dish Network and Cox Communications covering a total of about 1.2 million subscribers.

Gray TV operates 36 stations serving 30 markets.
