TV One Brings HD Channel to Five Markets

TV One-HD Now Available in NYC, Boston, Chicago, Portland and Seattle

By R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 12/17/2008 8:56:00 AM EST

TV One Wednesday announced it is offering a high-definition simulcast of its African American-targeted, analog cable channel on several Time Warner and Comcast Cable systems.

TV One-HD has launched on Time Warner Cable's NYC Region system, as well as on Comcast systems in Boston, Chicago, Portland, Oregon and Seattle, with additional launches expected in early January 2009, according to network officials.

The network’s HD channel will feature 20 percent of its programming in HD upon launch, including original shows Unsungand Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes?, as well as off network acquisitions Half & Half, Day Break, All of Us and Eve. The network expects to offer 40 percent of its content in HD by the end of 2010.

"We are still a young network, but we pride ourselves on staying on top of and offering the product that our distributors—and viewers—want and need," said TV One President Johnathan Rodgers in a statement. "Our viewers are heavy cable subscribers, early adopters of technology and considerably more likely than the general population to subscribe to an HD service, so we are delighted that we can offer distributors a high quality product like TV One-HD that serves their needs."
