‘The Hills’ Spin-Off Set for Big Apple Debut

Whitney Port Takes Top Billing in 'The City'

By Larry Barrett -- Multichannel News, 12/19/2008 5:09:00 AM

MTV’s new reality series The City debuts Monday, Dec. 29 at 10 p.m., taking viewers along for a ride with The Hills sidekick Whitney Port as she takes on NYC after accepting a “once-in-a-lifetime” job working for the Diane Von Furstenberg design house.

Port, 23, has long been portrayed as the “career girl” on MTV’s popular The Hills series, occasionally socializing with stars Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag but largely spending most of her on-air time working her way up the corporate ladder.

The first two of 13 episodes are back-to-back, network officials said.

In the series premiere, Port arrives in New York City during fashion week just in time to start her career at DVF as an image coordinator. As she embarks on a new job and a new romance, she's invited to an "uptown" dinner party by her coworker only to find out that her "downtown" boyfriend wants no part of that world.

In the second episode, Whitney's world is turned upside-down when a boy from her past warns her that her new boyfriend may be cheating, and while she doubts his motives she wonders if it's the truth.

The City is created by Adam DiVello. DiVello, Liz Gateley and Sean Travis serve as executive producers. Colin Nash is co-executive producer. Catherine K. Whyte is MTV's executive-in-charge of production. Spike Van Briesen and Sophia Rossi serve as supervising producers for the series.
