Liberty Global announced that CableLabs CEO Dick Green has been elected to the international cable operator’s board of directors.
Green will fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Gene Schneider, a cable-industry pioneer. "Dick brings a wealth of industry and technical experience to the company and we all look forward to working more closely with him," Liberty Global chairman John Malone said in a statement.
Green, who has headed CableLabs since its inception in 1988, is retiring from the post as of December 2009. The cable R&D consortium has not named a replacement.
Malone, meanwhile, is CableLabs’ chairman emeritus and was its first chairman when he was CEO of Tele-Communications Inc.
Liberty Global serves 16 million customers across 15 countries and also operates programming businesses such as Chellomedia in Europe.
