Speed Scores Rights Extension With Feld Motor Sports

Network Will Televise Monster Energy Supercross Series Through 2013

By Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 12/29/2008 4:45:00 AM

Speed has extended its rights deal with Feld Motor Sports, Inc. covering a host of events, headed by the Monster Energy Superscross Series.

The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, gives Speed telecast rights for the Monster Energy Supercross Series, an FIM World Championship, through at least 2013. In addition, Speed and Feld scored new deals for the network to air events from the AMA Arenacross Series, USHRA Monster Jam and International Hot Rod Association Nitro Jam.

Contracts for the AMA Arenacross Series and Monster Jam run through at least 2012, while the IHRA contract is a one-year deal for the 2009 season.

Speed begins its 2009 racing season with live coverage of the Monster Energy Supercross season opener from Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Jan. 3 at 10 p.m. (ET). The Speed supercross broadcast team comprises Ralph Sheheen (play-by-play), Motorcycle Hall of Famer Jeff Emig (analyst) and Erin Bates (pit reporter).

Exclusive Monster Energy Supercross and AMA Arenacross Series short-form content will be made available all season through SPEEDtv.com, cable operator’s video on demand platforms, iTunes video podcasts, mobile phones, cable broadband sites and viral distribution.

Full races will be made available on VOD and through select mobile carriers.

“This new deal with Feld Motor Sports delivers a diverse collection of racing properties for our viewers,” said Speed president Hunter Nickell in a statement. “It is a great blend of competition and entertainment, a mix that already has proven to resonate with a large number of race fans.”
