Los Angeles—Motorcycle designer Jesse James leaves the Monster Garage for the daredevil world in Spike's upcoming Jesse James Is a Dead Man, a series showing him attempting the death-defying stunts he's always wanted to try.

The series is still in production, and James has already broken two ribs, chipped his elbow and has been set on fire, resulting in "blisters down my ass crack," James said.

"Life is only a one-lap race," said James, explaining his interest in the show. Stunts in the 10-episode show include racing off-road in the Baja 500 or driving a Nitro-powered motorcycle at more than 200 miles per hour.

Some of the stunts are so fast and so violent they can't be captured effectively on film so producers said some of the shows use CGI effects to demonstrate the effects on James' body.

James said he's been doing stunts as a hobby since he was about 6 years old, when he and a cousin jumped off the roof of his house.

Asked what his wife (Sandra Bullock) thinks about his stunt-filled series, he quipped she sends him off to his shoots with "Break a leg!"

The series debuts May 31 at 10 p.m. In response to questions, James and channel executives said the series will carry "do not do this at home" type advisories. James is executive producer of the show from his company, Payupsucker Productions.
