TCA ’09: Thursday Night’s A Beach For Travel Channel
‘Bridget’s Sexiest Beaches’ Anchors Net’s New Lineup

Los Angeles--Travel Channel will spend Thursday nights on the beach beginning in March, as the network debuts a new reality series, Bridget’s Sexiest Beaches.
The series, highlighting the network’s Television Critics Association session on Saturday, will anchor the 91-million subscriber network’s Thursday night lineup, beginning March 12, according to Travel president and CEO Patrick Younge.
Hosted by former The Girls Next Door star Bridget Marquardt, the series will showcase some of the world’s most exotic beach communities from sea-and-sand locations in Fiji, Croatia, Jamaica, Mexico and Costa Rica.
Marquardt, who says she still keeps in touch with her two Girls Next Door co-stars Holly Madison and Kendra Wilkinson from the Hugh Hefner-created E! Entertainment series (Marquardt will be featured on the cover of Playboy later this month), says that she has the qualifications to host her own travel show.
“I love adventure and I think that’s the number one qualification for this,” she said, adding that she hold a masters degree in communications. “My ideal job was to host my own show -- something do with travel -- and I’ve kind of got the best of both worlds now.”
Younge said the show will hopefully give the network a hit series each night of the week. During the rest of the week, the network’s schedule is anchored by such shows as No Reservations, Bizarre Foods, Man v. Food, Ghost Adventures, Samantha Brown: Passport To Great Weekends and Living With Tribes.
“We’ve tried several shows on Thursday, but nothing seemed to have worked,” he said. “What we haven’t been able to do much beach content beyond our ‘Beach Week,’ so this is about building out a new franchise on a night we haven’t had much success with in the past.”
The network also announced a second new reality series, Dhani Tackles The Globe, which features NFL linebacker Dhani Jones showcasing various sports around the world.
