By Ted Hearn -- Multichannel News, 1/15/2009 11:00:00 AM

Washington—Federal Communications Commission chairman Kevin J. Martin said Thursday that he is resigning on Jan. 20 after nearly four years as leader of the national media regulatory body.

“I have had the privilege of serving at the FCC for almost eight years, including four years as the agency’s chairman.  During this period, we have seen a telecommunications industry undergoing rapid and unprecedented change," Martin said in his resignation letter to President Bush.

Martin said he will serve as a senior fellow at the Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C.
