Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 1/18/2009 5:55:00 AM MT

Univision Communications Inc. and Comcast Corp. will work together to make President-elect Barack Obama's inaugural address available to the operator's subscribers in Spanish on video on demand.
For the first time, Hispanic viewers will have VOD access to the historic event in Spanish. The address will be available starting Tuesday afternoon Jan. 20 on Comcast On Demand, channel 1 in "Top Picks" under "Barack Obama," following the live broadcast on the Univision network.
Univision and Comcast reached a retransmission-consent agreement on Jan. 6.

According to the National Association of Latino Elected Officials Educational Fund, somewhere between 9.6 million and 11 million Latino voted in the Nov. 4 election, the largest turnout of Latino voters in history.
"Creating the opportunity to provide this unique content represents our continued commitment to the Hispanic community," said Susan Gonzales, Comcast senior director, external and federal affairs, in a statement. "This partnership with Univision allows us to further engage the Hispanic community in this historic event while providing access to content when they want it."
Noted Univision senior vice president, affiliate marketing and distribution Jennifer Ball: "Univision and Comcast were at the forefront of informing, empowering and motivating our viewers to participate in the 2008 presidential election, making the coverage of the inaugural address an event of great interest to our audiences. Our ongoing mission to provide our audiences with access to vital information is now extended through this partnership with Comcast. We are committed to ensuring our VOD programming delivers for both our distribution partners and our audiences."
