Martin's Priorities
[RE: “Martin Blames Cable for Dingell Probe,” Multichannel.com, Jan. 22] Now I finally understand why [FCC Chairman Kevin] Martin delayed or never finished some important steps like intercarrier compensation, free wireless broadband, and the 2006 (or whenever) Video Competition Report. He had the FCC staff working on more important matters like that 70 page document he presented at his final open entitled “Why I Have Been A Historically Great FCC Chairman and Should Someday be President.” Not to mention Martin's 11-page rebuttal to Congress' conclusion that raised ethical questions about his tenure. Hopefully Martin's ability to manage his public image for personal career gain won't suffer now that he doesn't have the 2,000-person FCC staff at his disposal.

Staged Retreat For Analog?
[RE: “Verizon Flip-Flops on DTV Delay,” Jan. 17] My fear is that cutting off too many viewers may be hard to remedy since the means to reach them will be gone. Why not do it in stages, some stations in February, some in March, etc., until everything is complete? With other recent, destabilizing events, we don't need more.

Not Tuning In To DTV Switch
I for one decided to not get the converter for my bedroom tv. Since I have cable in my family room, I will just cut back on my TV watching. I am not alone in making this decision following applying for and getting the coupons. Other senior-citizen women friends of mine came to the same conclusion. It is not the time to be purchasing a converter when money is so tight.
I know to the Washington types $20-$50 doesn't seem like a lot, but to me it is — plus the aggravation of installing a converter which may not even work! So happy digital conversion to whomever. Count me out.
