Senate Unanimously Passes Second DTV Transition Date Bill

Expected To Hit House Under Regular Rules Feb. 4

An aide to Sen. Jay Rockefeller confirms that the Senate has once again passed a bill changing the DTV transition date from Feb. 17 to June 12.
The bill, which again passed by unanimous consent--no Senator objected--contains a couple of fixes made in the House to language pertaining to budget rules and first responder communications.
The bill is expected to be sent to the House for consideration under regular rules. If the House Rules Committee gets the bill Tuesday, it could get to the House floor by Wednesday, Feb. 4, where a simple majority will be sufficient to pass it.
The first bill failed under expedited rules even though a majority approved it (258 to 168). That's because it had to get a two-thirds majority.
The bottom line: the odds just improved the transition date to June 12.

• This is ridiculous. Since the vote didn't go their way the first time, they will change the voting rules and vote again? I never heard of anything more absurd. It's going to be be two weeks to transition date when they vote, give it up already. Who's going to pay PBS who will have to lay out millions more to keep thier analog signals on as well as regular broadcasters? What about the emergency responders waiting for the spectrum. This date was set in stone 3 years ago, enough with the delays, there will always be people unprepared. They had time. We had a 100 day countdown on every TV station since November. Do we all have to put up with that again!! Do you know how confusing this will be to the average person, many of whom won't even know the date changed? This is ludicrous!!
