Time Warner Cable, looking to defend its home turf against Verizon's FiOS TV incursion into New York City, is now offering 100 high-definition channels to customers in the city's five boroughs.
The company said it reached the 100-HD-channel mark everywhere in its New York City service area effective Thursday, Feb. 5. The expanded HD lineup includes 65 channels included as a standard part of the service with any HD-capable set-top box or digital video recorder, plus 35 premium-tier HD channels.
"With the vast majority of HD channels included free with digital service, Time Warner Cable offers the easiest transition to HD and the best value of any provider today," Howard Szarfarc, executive vice president of Time Warner Cable New York metro region.
Verizon launched FiOS TV in New York City in July 2008 with more than 100 HD channels. Across its entire footprint, the telco added 303,000 video subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2008.

I recently discovered that Time Warner Cable has been overbilling me for two years. It seems the HD service should have been included in the negotiated bulk rate for my building in NYC, but it turns out they have been billing me for it in addition to my bulk rate. I have asked for an adjustment to my bill, plus a rebate going back to when the billing error started, and have had to fight tooth and nail with them over this issue. Regarding their HD service, it is full of digital freezes and audio drop-outs, which is due to their lack of bandwidth. I can't wait for FiOS to become available in my building. Screw Time Warner. They have never had any competition until now, and soon they will have to fight for their lives in NYC.

Here here
I was so anoyed with Time Warner's HD service (i have the same pixle and freezes problems) i called Direct tv and got thei dish on my building. Amazing, picture never freezes no pixels and the HD is amazing, i often switch from time warner to directv ro compare and directv has an amazing picture and sound - TW's HD looks like SD. As of now i have both - Directv's box is so much better, i can keep over 50 HD movies on there while i can only keep 10 HD movies on TW's so so slow box.

Too bad it will STILL SUCK!!!! Moving from LA where I had FIOS and it was the BEST SERVICE I EVER HAD to NYC this year and the worse with TIME WARNER, it won't matter. As soon as I possibly can I will drop TIme Warner.
Here are the problems with Time Warner.
On the HD channels, you often hit bandwidth issues in the building and the picture pixelizes or freezes. There is not enough bandwidth. Happened on the SUPER BOWL and it happens on shows on ESPN. And no it isn't the box. They have been here 3 times.
Another problem with Time Warner. Their BOXES SUCK. They are often needed for a reboot or a reset from the main office. Which requires a 30 minute call and most of the time, the person on the other end doesn't even understand the technology and what is needed.
Compare that to my experience with Verizon. I had one issue in 12 months. I picked up my Verizon Phone and dialed 0. I got a operator who sent me to the Fios people directly which a automated system diagnosed my situation in less than 3 minutes and reset the system in 2 minutes. No human to wait for or talk to.
Time Warner can do all they want, but in the end their technology is old, their customer service is horrible and their product offering is lacking.
If you own the stock I would sell.
