Motorola Ships 1,000 'Wideband' CMTS Modules

TX32 Delivers 32 Downstream QAM Channels

By Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 2/11/2009 4:23:17 PM

Motorola said it has sold more than 1,000 "decoupled downstream" modules for its BSR 64000 integrated cable-modem termination system.

The vendor's TX32 Decoupled Downstream Module supports 32 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) channels in a single slot in the Motorola BSR 64000, to deliver DOCSIS 3.0 channel-bonded services of up to 200 Mbps downstream.

The TX32's downstream QAMs can be coupled with the downstream and upstream channels on existing 2:8 CMTS modules to provide up to 138 downstream channels in a single BSR 64000, for up to 5 Gigabits per second of aggregate downstream capacity. Without the TX32, the BSR 64000 supports a maximum of 24 downstream QAM channels.

Motorola began shipping the TX32 in May 2008. The company has previously announced DOCSIS channel-bonding deployments with Japan's J:Com and two Korean operators, C&M and CJ CableNet.
