BIAP has launched a series of prebuilt interactive TV templates, dubbed AdWidgets and TVWidgets, which promise to let cable operators and advertisers rapidly deploy Enhanced Binary Interchange Format applications.
The company is offering widgets for on-screen interactive TV ads, news, weather, sports, stocks, search, "TV commerce," and other functions, which can be customized and turned into EBIF-compliant applications.
"We have had a bundle of applications launched for many years that deliver hyper-personalized and localized content to viewers," said BIAP chief product officer Ellen Dudar. "With our AdWidget and TVWidget approach, we are now delivering the content within a widget framework."
BIAP's ITV platform is deployed across 24 million set-top boxes, primarily through Time Warner Cable and Dish Network.
With the templates, BIAP provides a software development kit to customize widgets using a user-interface editor. Once the widget has been defined, according to BIAP, the system instantiates it as a validated EBIF application ready for deployment. The AdWidgets and TVWidgets also include built-in bandwidth management to prevent network congestion.
