Valentine’s Day Was Sweet For Nat Geo
Washington — National Geographic Channel enjoyed its highest-rated Saturday primetime ever, reaching 5.3 million total viewers during the 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. block, according to the channel. In Nielsen Media Research ratings terms, the channel averaged a 0.43 among the core 25-54 demographic, according to a spokesperson.
The lineup that night included Explorer: Monster Fish of the Congo, Dangerous Encounters: Deadly Dozen Africa and The Real Abraham Lincoln, a two-hour premiere at 9 p.m. January 2009, meanwhile, was the network’s highest-rated month ever.
LMN Telefilm Has 'Taken’ Viewing Crown
New York — Lifetime Movie Network’s Feb. 15 premiere of telefilm Taken in Broad Daylight was the second-highest-rated and most-watched movie in the service’s 10-year history.
The original movie averaged a 2.2 household rating and 1.9 million viewers during its debut, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
Taken in Broad Daylight now ranks as the network’s second highest-rated and most-watched original movie premiere in its history among households and women 18 to 34. The movie was inspired by the survival story of a 17-year-old girl who was kidnapped by a criminal and taken on a harrowing, six-day multistate journey.
She left clues for police as she tried to outwit her captor and was able to engineer her own remarkable rescue. The movie starred James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek), Sara Canning (Kyle XY) and LeVar Burton (Roots).
GSN Orders 65 More Episodes of 'Catch 21’
Los Angeles — When it comes to Catch 21, GSN favors 65.
The service ordered a 65-installment second season of the game show, hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro.
Ribeiro — best known for playing Carlton, Will Smith’s cousin on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air — quizzes contestants who try to win cards without going over 21. In the final round, the player has to build 21 from an oversized deck, winning the $25,000 grand prize if he or she does.
The new season — which begins on GSN on April 6 at 6:30 p.m., leading out from The Newlywed Game — will feature a “power chip” enabling the holder to discard an unwanted card in the final round, thereby boosting the odds of winning.
