Lifetime has picked up a fourth season of its hit series Army Wives.
The women's targeted programmer has placed the pick-up in advance of the series third campaign, ordering 18 episodes ABC Studios. The show's third season will bow in its Sunday 10 p.m. time slot in June, with the fourth season slated to follow in 2010. The show's second season averaged 3.78 million viewers for installment premieres, up from 3.69 million watchers during its rookie campaign.
Army Wives follows the struggles, dreams and friendships of a diverse group of women - and one man - living with their spouses and families on an active army post. Currently filming in Charleston, S.C., the series stars Kim Delaney, Sally Pressman, Brigid Brannagh, Brian McNamara, Sterling K. Brown, Wendy Davis, Drew Fuller, Terry Serpico, Katelyn Pippy and Catherine Bell.
"This early pick-up - even prior to the season 3 premiere - is a true testament to our commitment and support of this great show," said JoAnn Alfano, executive vice president, Lifetime Networks, in a statement. "With Jeff Melvoin taking the reins as the executive producer, we are confident that the best episodes are yet to come."
