Shaw Communications is deploying DOCSIS 3.0-qualified cable-modem equipment from Motorola to support the Canadian operator's rollout of high-speed services at 100 Mbps.
Last week, Shaw began offering High-Speed Nitro service in Saskatchewan, providing up to 100-Mbps downloads -- the fastest residential Internet speeds available in North America -- using the channel-bonding capabilities of DOCSIS 3.0. The MSO also said existing broadband customers will experience a 50% or greater increase in speed.
According to Shaw, the 100-Mbps service is $249.95 (Canadian) per month bundled with another service and $269.95 (Canadian) per month as a standalone service.
The cable operator will use Motorola's BSR 64000 cable-modem termination systems with the TX32 Decoupled Downstream Modules. The TX32 provides 32 downstream QAM channels in a single slot. Shaw also is using Motorola's SurfBoard SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0-certified modems.
Shaw, based in Calgary, Alberta, serves 3.4 million customers, including 1.6 million broadband subscribers.
