Gospel Music Channel will intersperse comedy within its music-based lineup next month when it launches a new original series, Ha! Standing Up For Clean Comedy.
The series, hosted by comedian actor Jonathan Slocumb (Meet The Browns) and will feature non-explicit stand-up comedy performances, will debut as a special on March 7, according to the network.
The series will then be reexpressed as short segments that will air at various times throughout the Gospel Music schedule. Comedians scheduled to appear on the show include Lisa Alvarado, Michael Joiner, Leighann Lord, Horace "HB" Sanders, Angel Gaines, Taylor Mason, Ron G. and Ron Baker Jr.
In other GMC news, the network has expanded its soul-based music programming to Monday nights. "Soulful Monday" joins "Soulful Sunday" in offering series, specials, videos and entertaining stories from such soul gospel greats as Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Al Green, Mary Mary, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Smokie Norful, The Clark Sisters, Robert Randolph and CeCe Winans.
