CableLabs Recaps Tru2way Developer Conference
Demos Included Comcast Showing IPG on Panasonic HDTV

CableLabs said nearly 100 people attended its Tru2way Developers Conference last month in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The one-day conference in February, part of the CableLabs Winter Technology Forum, provided updates on tru2way deployment updates from cable operators and provided demonstrations from hardware vendors and application developers.
At the event, Panasonic demonstrated its 42-inch Viera Plasma HDTV natively running Comcast's interactive tru2way electronic programming guide.
The event also included a "developer lab" hosted by enableTV, an interactive TV software developer that specializes in tru2way and EBIF technology and professional services.
"Bringing cable operators, consumer electronics vendors, content providers, application developers and other stakeholders together to hear the same message is important," So Vang, vice president of OpenCable at CableLabs, said in a statement.
Tru2way, the consumer-facing brand name for CableLabs' OpenCable Application Platform, is serving the cable industry's goal of opening up interactive services directly to consumer-electronics devices.
The six biggest U.S. MSOs last year signed pacts with major CE companies, including Sony Electronics, pledging to support Tru2way-compatible retail devices across their footprints by July 1 and that 20% of all new cable set-tops they deployed would be based on Tru2way to ensure common reliance on the spec.
CableLabs said it its tru2way outreach efforts in 2009 will include featuring the specification as part of the CableNet showcase at The Cable Show in Washington, D.C., April 1-3.
