ActiveVideo Networks plans to demonstrate the ability to launch Web-based, interactive content on TV using CableLabs' Enhanced Binary Interchange Format at next week's Cable Show '09 in Washington, D.C.

The company's EBIF applications on display will include a "portal-like" programming experience linking to bonus material from a linear TV show, as well as advertising microsites showcasing video and products in a specific market. ActiveVideo claimed the demos represent the industry's first example of using EBIF triggers to launch Web content.

"Combining EBIF with interactive, video content from the Internet and/or from operators' VOD platforms, creates a media-rich, immersive interactive video ad that maximizes the viewer experience and impact," ActiveVideo chief technology officer John Callahan said, in a statement.

ActiveVideo, formerly known as ICTV, is based in San Jose, Calif.
