NCTA president Kyle McSlarrow told a Cable Show '09 lunch crowd Friday that the event had actually nudged ahead of last year's confab in New Orleans with attendance in the nation's capital at a little over 12,000.

McSlarrow also updated figures on the number of Washington policymakers who had kicked the tires on the Broadband Nation exhibit. He said that in addition to the 100-plus legislators, some 200 congressional staffers and another 100 administration officials, including all three commissioners, had made the rounds.

NCTA had been predicting the show attendance could be down 20%, with McSlarrow joking that journalists would probably accuse him of lowballing that figure.
