SAG, AMPTP Reach Accord

Actors Guild To Present Two-Year Deal To Board Sunday

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 4/17/2009 4:31:31 PM

The 10-month dispute between the Screen Actors Guild and the studios appears to be over.
SAG and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers today announced that the parties have reached a tentative accord on successor pacts to the producer-SAG codified basic agreement.
Details of the two-year agreement covering TV programs and films will not be disclosed prior to review by the SAG national board of directors on April 19 --at a previously scheduled board meeting via videoconference in Los Angeles and New York.
SAG said it will present the tentative agreement to its board of directors for approval and referral to the membership for ratification.

Should the board of directors approve the accord, it would then be subject to a membership vote, with a simple majority needed for ratification, according to a SAG spokeswoman.

SAG, which has some 120,000 members, had been operating under its old contract, which expired June 30.
Deal points aside, SAG and the studios surmounted a stumbling block over the length of the new contract, earlier this month. SAG wanted the contract to run through June 2011, co-terminus to studio contracts with other Tinseltown talent unions. The studios wanted a three-year term through June 2012.
