Dish Extension Boosts Ion Subscriber Count

Network's East, West Coast Feeds Now Available On Classic Bronze Package

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 4/20/2009 2:21:40 PM

Ion Media Networks has reached a contract extension with Dish Network.

The deal, terms of which were not disclosed, covers Ion's east and west coast feeds, placing them on Dish's Classic Bronze 100 package, the DBS provider's most broadly distributed tier. This expands Ion's distribution to the vast majority of Dish's nearly 14 million subscribers, according to network officials.

"Dish is one of our most important distribution partners and we are particularly pleased with this win/win relationship," said Brandon Burgess, chairman and CEO of Ion Media Networks, in a statement. "We look forward to supporting and welcoming the growing numbers of Dish subscribers to Ion Television -- especially in the Pacific and Mountain time zones."

Bearing the "Positively Entertaining" moniker, Ion Televison's revamped lineup showcases such off-network series as Boston Legal and NCIS, plus blockbuster theatricals. This fall, current hits Criminal Minds and Ghost Whisperer join Ion's schedule, along with import acquisition, Durham County.
