Sundance Channel has elevated marketing maven Sarah Barnett to lead the network on a day-to-day basis as executive vice president and general manager.
Barnett, who has been senior vice president of marketing for Sundance Channel since joining the service late in 2005, succeeds Laura Michalchyshyn. The latter moved to Discovery Communications to head up its Planet Green service last month.
Cablevision's Rainbow Media purchased Sundance Channel last year.
"Sarah has played such an important part in the network's success and is a perfect choice for General Manager," said Evan Shapiro, president IFC and Sundance Channel, in a statement. "She is an innovative, curious and sophisticated executive with great leadership abilities, who exemplifies the Sundance brand. Her production background coupled with her deep marketing and branding experience makes her an ideal choice to lead and grow the network into its next phase."
In her previous post, Barnett was responsible for all strategic and creative marketing for the network. She oversaw consumer and trade marketing and advertising for Sundance Channel and sundancechannel.com, and led all creative campaigns and branding development and execution for the network, including strategic partnerships and all channel creative expressions. She also led Sundance Channel's pioneering branded entertainment short-form series and sponsorship creative executions.
Barnett also was responsible for multiplatform creative campaigns, including the third season of "The Green" "31 Days of Sundance," Iconoclasts, Live from Abbey Road, and Spectacle: Elvis Costello With...
Prior to joining Sundance Channel, Barnett was vice president, on-Air for BBC America, where she launched a successful brand refresh and packaged the VOD offerings. Prior to her tenure at BBC America, Barnett spent 12 years with the BBC in London, directing and producing for radio and television.
