Startup Celeno Communications is working with Texas Instruments to add high-speed Wi-Fi networking capabilities to DOCSIS 3.0 cable-modem gateways that will let cable operators deliver HD video streams within subscribers' homes.
Celeno's CL1300 Wi‑Fi chip is now interoperable with TI's Puma 5 family of DOCSIS 3.0 silicon, the companies announced Tuesday.
The CL1300 chip uses a technology called Implicit Phased-array Transmit Beamforming Multiple-Input Multiple-Output to provide what Celeno claims is "HD performance" while maintaining compatibility with existing Wi-Fi clients on the receiving set-top side. The chip provides whole-home coverage with throughput for multiple HD video streams, according to Celeno, and "meets MSOs' stringent requirements for wire-like video quality and performance."
"As part of TI's growing DOCSIS 3.0 ecosystem, Celeno has combined the flexibility of Puma 5 with its wireless HD home-networking solutions allowing OEMs to offer IPTV distribution and multiroom DVR capabilities," Adam Lapede, director of marketing in TI's digital connected home group, said in a statement.
Ra'anana, Israel-based Celeno was founded in 2005. Investors include Cisco Systems, Greylock Partners and Pitango Venture Capital.
