PRIMEVAL
(BBC America, Saturday, May 16, 9 p.m.)
Summer entertainment starts early at BBC America with the return of the original series Primeval.
The show is sci-fi action mixing conspiracy with time travel and prehistoric creatures rampaging in modern London. Episode one plants an anomaly — the portal through which the creatures enter the present day — amid the Egyptian artifacts in the British Museum, a colorful location.
Egyptologist Sarah Page (Laila Rouass, who played Amber in Footballers Wive$) happens into the adventure and then joins the team of creature hunters led by the dashing Scot, Prof. Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall).
Sarah makes a crucial observation — the crocodile-like Pristichampus that invades the museum looks a lot like Egyptian demon Ammut — and triggers the idea that epic mythical creatures might have been anomaly travelers.
Pegasus, anyone?
Future episodes promise better beasties than ever, including one designed by a Primeval fan.
Bring them on: We’re ready.
