Industry Veteran Joins Sports-Entertainment Firm As Partner

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 5/18/2009 11:11:12 PM

Carl Vogel has joined sports and entertainment firm SCP Worldwide as a partner.
The industry veteran joins SCP chairman David Checketts and the other partners, Michael McCarthy, Ken Munoz, Steven Potter and Dean Howes, at the sports and entertainment firm. Vogel, who will be based in Denver, will assist them in the operation of the company's current assets, as well as the procurement of new business and investment capital.
Most recently, industry veteran Vogel served as vice chairman of Dish Network and EchoStar Communications, where he will continue as a member of the board of Dish and as an advisor to chairman, CEO and founder Charlie Ergen. Among his other career stops, Vogel was president and CEO of Charter Communications.
"Carl is one of the most respected and successful executives in the country and we are fortunate that he has decided to join us," said Checketts in a statement. "We will immediately look to tap into his unparalleled wealth of knowledge, business acumen and connections as we continue to look at properties that will enable us to grow our business."
Noted Vogel: "This is a great opportunity to join a wonderful company made up of people with strong back rounds and very impressive track records. It is exciting to think of the opportunities that lie ahead for us as we look to build upon what has fast become one of the premier companies in the sports, media and entertainment industry."
SCP Partners holdings include the National Hockey League's St. Louis Blues, Scottrade Center, and Kiel Opera House all based in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate Peoria Rivermen. The company also owns and operates Major League Soccer's Real Salt Lake and its home, Rio Tinto Stadium, plus KALL700 Sports Radio in Salt Lake City.
The New York City-headquartered company also holds the rights to South American 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
