CableLabs said a record 22 software and hardware vendors, programmers and operators participated in an interactive TV interoperability event at its Louisville, Colo., headquarters May 4-9.
The weeklong event included lab sessions with more than 35 applications, written to CableLabs' tru2way and Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) specifications, running across multiple headends, user agents and set-top boxes.
The 22 participating companies were: ADB Global, Alcatel-Lucent, Biap, Cisco Systems, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Ensequence, Flashlight Engineering, Funai, HSN, iCueTV, itaas, Intel, S&T, Softel, Sony Electronics, Starz Entertainment, Time Warner Cable, TVWorks, UniSoft, Universal Electronics, Vidiom Systems and VividLogic.
According to CableLabs, the interop event included six different tru2way host devices, and four ETV user agents.
Tru2way and ETV apps ranged from testing and diagnostic applications to those geared toward a TV viewers, such as shopping by remote. Starz, for example, showed off an EBIF app at the Cable Show '09 that lets viewers switch from watching a movie on its linear channels to an operator's video-on-demand service.
CableLabs is planning its next tru2way interoperability event in the fall of 2009. There is no charge to participate.
In addition, the consortium expects to hold an advanced-advertising interop event June 1-5, which will encompass the set of specifications recently announced jointly by Canoe Ventures and CableLabs.
