'Royal Pains' Debuts Before 5.6 Million USA Network Viewers

Hamptons Doctor Series Retains 93% Of 'Burn Notice' Lead-In

USA Network's new Thursday night original series lineup burned brightly with viewers.

The third-season premiere of spy drama Burn Notice played its role in the 9 p.m. and newcomer Royal Pains was almost the perfect lead-out patient, retaining 93% of its lead-in's audience on June 4.

Burn Notice scored a 4.24 household rating, translating into 6 million viewers on average, according to Nielsen Media Research data. That total included 2.8 million adults 25 to 54 and 2.5 million 18-to-49 watchers and 1.2 folks 18 to 34.
Overall, Burn Notice scored gains of 11% in total viewers, 7% among adults 18 to 49 and 4% against persons 25 to 54, compared with its season-two debut, according to USA officials.
The show outperformed broadcast competition with stronger deliveries of adults 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 over the NBC debut of supernatural series The Listener, and beat a CSI encore with the 18-to-49 set.
The Jeffrey Donovan-starrer set the stage for a strong debut for Hamptons-doctor series Royal Pains, which notched a 4.18 household rating and was the viewing cure for 5.6 million watchers on average in the 10 p.m. hour, according to Nielsen data. Royal Pains posted 2.5 million adults 25 to 54, and 2.3 million persons 18 to 49 in its opener.

As such, the series, starring Mark Feuerstein as Dr. Hank Lawson, outperformed the series bows of Burn Notice and USA's witness protection series In Plain Sight among total viewers and adults 18 to 49, according to network officials.
Royal Pains topped he second episode of The Listener among adults 18 to 49 and 25 to 54 and outpaced CBS's The Mentalist among the 18-to-34 crowd.
Both USA series also faced competition from Game 1 of the NBA Finals on ABC and Versus' coverage of the fourth game of the Stanley Cup Final
