by MCN Staff -- Multichannel News, 6/9/2009 9:00:04 AM

China’s Jiangsu Cable has expanded its relationship with BigBand Networks to deliver interactive and personalized video services.

This is the first-of-a-kind strategic agreement that Jiangsu Broadcasting Television Network Corp. Ltd. has signed with a foreign company in the China cable industry.

Jiangsu Cable has about 11 million subscribers, making it one of the largest cable operators in China and the leading cable company in the Jiangsu province. With a vision of “becoming the best quality and most reliable operator of integrated radio and broadcasting network,” its consolidating existing infrastructure into a single network and accelerating the pace of digital migration throughout the province.

In September 2008,  Jiangsu Cable selected BigBand’s Broadband Multimedia-Service Router to process and deliver digital television services, including high definition (HD) and interactive television.

The BigBand BMR has been deployed in the provincial capital, Nanjing, and 11 cities, and provides digital television services to millions of subscribers.

Separately, BigBand said this week that after the recent additions of Harald Braun and Michael Pohl as independent directors, Gal Israely of Cedar Funds and Bruce Sachs of Charles River Ventures have resigned from the board of directors. Both Cedar Funds and Charles River Ventures were early investors in BigBand Networks.
