AT&T Reups With Alcatel-Lucent For U-Verse

Networking Provider Originally Landed Deal With SBC In 2004

Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 6/23/2009 1:10:26 PM EDT

Alcatel-Lucent announced that AT&T has extended its contract with the vendor for end-to-end multivendor network integration services for the U-verse video, voice and data services.

Under the agreement announced today, Alcatel-Lucent will continue to provide support for AT&T U-verse, including Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV software platform. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

In October 2004, SBC Communications announced a five-year deal primary supplier agreement with Alcatel worth approximately $1.7 billion for the fiber-to-the-node Project Lightspeed network. SBC in 2005 acquired AT&T in a $16 billion transaction.

U-verse services are now offered in 93 markets in 19 states, and AT&T has more than 1.3 million U-verse TV customers.

"AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent have worked together to integrate and deploy U-verse TV so it delivers a reliable, feature-rich service to its users," Robert Vrij, president of Alcatel-Lucent's Americas business, said in a statement. "As AT&T U-verse expands even further across the country, we are looking forward to continuing to provide AT&T with our multivendor, end-to-end network integration capabilities."
