Network Will Cap Series First Season With ‘Life After Labor'  Special, Hosted By Dr. Drew Pinsky

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 6/30/2009 11:08:36 PM

Three episodes in, MTV has ordered a second season of iunscripted series 16 and Pregnant.

The series, which tracks the daily lives of six pregnant teenage girls over a five- to seven-month period, has been a timeslot winner for MTV among females 12 to 34 since its debut. In addition, the show has improved its time period by 162% among persons 12 to 34 and 184% among the aforementioned female demo.
The network has also ordered a finale special 16 and Pregnant: Life After Labor, hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky. The special, scheduled for July 23 at 10 p.m., will feature all of the girls profiled in the series, and update viewers on what has happened since the cameras stopped rolling. It will also serve as a forum to discuss the controversial topics that came up during the first season.
Meanwhile, the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy is working with MTV to support 16 & Pregnant, creating viewing guides for each episodes so educators, key organizations and individuals can use the show, which will be available free for distribution, as a platform to have an honest discussion around sexual health and pregnancy with teens.
Additionally, The National Campaign launched an online resource supporting the show at www.stayteen.org to answer viewers' most commonly asked questions surrounding pregnancy and provide young people with the information they need to be fully informed on this topic.
