Avis Offers AT&T's Satellite TV In Florida

Aims 22-Channel In-Car CruiseCast Service at Family Vacationers in Sunshine State

Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 7/6/2009 2:53:18 PM

Targeting families on summer vacation, Avis Rent A Car this week will begin offering AT&T's CruiseCast in-car satellite TV service to customers at select Florida rental locations.

Avis customers can tack on CruiseCast, which delivers 22 video and 20 audio channels, for an additional $8.95 per day or $62.65 per week. The service is available starting Monday at airport locations in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach.

The AT&T-branded service is managed by Vienna, Va.-based RaySat Broadcasting. Satellite TV signals are received via a three-pound, pod-like antenna attached to a vehicle's roof, which Avis installs prior to the rental pickup, and delivered through the rear-seat entertainment system.

The CruiseCast lineup includes Disney Channel, USA Network, Discovery, Sci Fi, Lifetime Television, ESPN Mobile, NFL Network, CBS College Sports Network, Fox News, CNN Mobile, MSNBC and AccuWeather.

Advance rental reservations are required for AT&T CruiseCast service. The rental-car company provides more information at www.avis.com/cruisecast.

RaySat Broadcasting touts the system's video-buffering technology, which automatically stores two minutes of video,

so viewing is uninterrupted by satellite obstructions such as overpasses or tall buildings.
