Stage Is Set Saturday Night For UFC 100

Milestone PPV Card Is Expected To Draw More Than 1 Million Buys

R. Thomas Umstead -- Multichannel News, 7/10/2009 5:29:19 PM

The Ultimate Fighting Championship hopes to wrestle more than 1 million buys for its July 11 UFC 100 pay-per-view event, UFC president Dana White told Multichannel News.

The milestone PPV event from Las Vegas, which sells at a suggested retail price of $44.95, will feature several title fights including a rematch bout between Brock Lesnar and veteran mixed martial arts contender Frank Mir for the heavyweight title.

The welterweight title is also up for grabs as champion Georges St. Pierre puts his belt on the line against contender Thiago Alves.

Also on the card is a middleweight fight between the two coaches from season nine of Spike TV's Ultimate Fighter, Britian's Michael Bisping and the USA's Dan Henderson.

During a presale to its "UFC Fight Club" members, the group sold out the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas for its 100th mixed martial arts card in less than 90 minutes.

On a segment on CNBC's Squawk Box on July 10, UFC president Dana White said the group had also sold out a closed circuit venue at Mandalay Bay and opened another one at the MGM.

White noted that "all of our polling right now is showing we're going to do well over 1 million buys."
