Move Networks Names Austin CEO
Ex-DirecTV Exec Takes Reins At Startup Backed By Comcast, Cisco

Internet TV services provider Move Networks has appointed former DirecTV executive Roxanne Austin as its president and CEO.
Austin, who also joins the company's board of directors, since 2004 had headed Austin Investment Advisors, a private investment and consulting firm focused on new media and technology. Prior to that, she was president and chief operating officer with DirecTV and held various senior leadership positions at then-parent Hughes Electronics.
"Roxanne brings the experience, expertise and leadership necessary for Move Networks to help its customers define the future of Internet television," Move Networks founder Drew Major said in a statement. "We are extremely fortunate to have Ms. Austin lead Move Networks and its vision to set the standard for a ‘true' television experience delivered over the Internet as well as by IPTV."
Move Networks' Internet-video player is used by media companies including ABC, ESPN, Fox and Televisa.
In addition, Comcast plans to use the video player in its 5,000-home On-Demand Online trial, scheduled to kick off this month, that will deliver cable content to subscribers via Comcast.net and Fancast.com.
Investors include Comcast, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, Steamboat Ventures and Benchmark Capital.
"The next step for the media industry is to have a sustainable way to monetize professional content on the Internet," Austin said in a statement. "I look forward to working with our content and distribution partners to ensure they achieve a financially successful transition to this next generation of internet television services."
Austin, who also has been a partner with Deloitte & Touche, currently serves on the board of directors of Ericsson, Target, Abbott Laboratories and Teledyne Technologies. She is on the board of trustees for the California Science Center.
Move Networks, based in American Fork, Utah, earlier this year acquired Inuk Networks, a U.K. company that sold an IPTV platform that can deliver video to multiple PCs in a home, with targeted advertising and converged applications. The Inuk IPTV platform was touted as allowing service providers to deliver TV over the open Internet as well as closed networks using a mix of both multicast and rate-adaptive video delivery.
