HBO Scores On Sunday With Series Trio

'True Blood' Sets New Audience Mark; 'Hung' Grows; 'Entourage' Elevates

Mike Reynolds -- Multichannel News, 7/14/2009 3:15:28 PM

Sunday was a strong series night for HBO with the Nielsens.

Vampire show True Blood bit down on another ratings mark, while gigolo series Hung grew in its second outing. Meanwhile, Hollywood buddy series Entourage had its best night in more than two years.
True Blood continued to heat up with viewers, as the July 12 installment at 9 p.m. premiered to 3.9 million watchers, its most ever, according to Nielsen Media Research data.
Thus far in its sophomore season, the series has averaged a gross audience -- linear network airings, HBO On Demand and DVR -- of 10.8 million viewers per episode, up 39% from last season's average, according to HBO officials.
For its part, Hung attracted 3.6 million watchers, 29% more than during its July 5 debut. As such, Sunday's installment retained 93% of True Blood's lead-in.
Entourage's sixth season got off on a strong footing, notching 3.4 million viewers, its biggest audience since it ran after The Sopranos on May 6, 2007. Doug Ellin's series retained 95% of Hung's audience.
